Course Description

In this Construction 101 course, part of a three-part series, you’ll examine the five primary sectors of construction, exploring the variety of structures within each. Designed for early-career construction professionals and those curious about the industry, this course offers you a comprehensive overview of the major construction sectors and project types within each sector.

The course begins by discussing the concept of the built environment - all human-made structures where people live, work, and play. Next, you'll define and explore how sectors like Residential, Commercial, Mixed-Use, Infrastructure, and Industrial each contribute uniquely to this environment. You'll learn about the distinct processes, challenges, and stakeholders involved in each sector, from residential homes to commercial spaces and major infrastructure projects, gaining an appreciation for the complexity and interconnection among these sectors.

By the end of the course, you'll have a solid understanding of the unique characteristics of each sector. You'll be able to identify the types of projects and stakeholders involved, and with clear explanations and practical examples, you'll walk away with a thorough grasp of the Construction Sectors shaping our built environment.
